Is the Silmarillion any good? I just bought it and I wanted to know if anyone else read it and liked it.

I liked. The trilogy of the Ring is better, though.

Definently every fan should read the Sil. It’s great backup information to the LOTR trilogy. You can understand many things better after reading Sil, for example Aragorn’s song of Luthien and Legolas’ song of Nimrodel ect. And its a good book.  Anyway, it’s style is slightly different from LOTR, it’s more historical, a little like a history book you know... Very real  |

Yeah, the first part is about the creation of the universe.
Anyways, I liked the Silmarillion better. It is, after all, Tolkien's main work.

True, but on the other hand, it’s not written directly by him, and it shows. The LOTR is more alive, more exciting I would say. Sil has lost a bit of its style. It’s still very good and definently worth of reading though. It gives so much bitterly needed backup information |
